Illegal Workers

SEWER DRAINAGE SPECIALIST LTD carries out VISA, Passport, and Date of Birth checks to ensure that all current and potential employees are entitled to work in the UK in accordance with Sections 15–25 of the Immigration, Asylum & Nationality Act 2006.

If a non-EU resident applies to work with us, a copy of their work visa and passport will be required. All necessary checks will then be made to ensure they have the right to work in the UK and no immigration restrictions preventing them from doing the work in question.

All documentation used to verify the right to work will comply with Home Office guidance on preventing illegal working.

If a potential employee’s right to work in the UK is temporary, additional checks will be carried out to ensure that documents are renewed before employment commences.

All verified documentation is retained for a minimum of two years after the individual has ceased employment with SEWER DRAINAGE SPECIALIST LTD.

Due Diligence Processes for Slavery and Human Trafficking

SEWER DRAINAGE SPECIALIST LTD undertakes due diligence when taking on new suppliers and regularly reviews existing ones.

Our process includes:

  • Building long-standing, transparent relationships with suppliers.

  • Clearly communicating our expectations of ethical practice.

  • Evaluating modern slavery and trafficking risks of each new supplier.

  • Taking corrective action or ending business relationships where necessary.

Employers are also required under the Health and Safety at Work Act to provide their workforce with all necessary information to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, their health and safety at work.

Non-English-Speaking Personnel

Non-English-speaking labour can be found across many occupations and trades. SEWER DRAINAGE SPECIALIST LTD categorises this as follows:

1. Specialist International Contractors

Equipment may be procured internationally, and installation teams may include members who do not speak English fluently.

2. Tradesmen

Trades such as electricians and dry liners may include non-English-speaking operatives within the supply chain.

3. Unskilled Labour

Unskilled non-English-speaking workers are often employed in roles such as site labour, security, and cleaning—often on a labour-only basis.

Language barriers can pose safety risks if essential instructions or inductions are misunderstood.

Regulation 10 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations requires information for employees to be comprehensible and relevant—that is, understandable to those receiving it.

The Approved Code of Practice for “Management of Health and Safety at Work” states:

  • The information provided should suit the employee’s level of training, knowledge, and experience.

  • It should be provided in a form that accounts for any language difficulties or disabilities.

For employees with limited English, SEWER DRAINAGE SPECIALIST LTD will make special arrangements, such as:

  • Providing translations.

  • Using interpreters.

  • Replacing written notices with clear visual or language-appropriate alternatives.

Policy Review

This Modern Slavery and Illegal Workers Policy will be reviewed at regular intervals and updated as necessary, and no later than November 22, 2025.

The Company Director endorses this policy statement and is fully committed to its implementation.
